Wedding Wish #6

Wedding Wish #6- Make your grand exit Grande!

Come up with something fun for your guests to help send you off as husband and wife. It seems everyone does rose petals, bubbles, or sparklers… and they are all beautifully done BUT if you want something different think of the possibilities… Streamers! Balloons! Funfetti! Be creative and have fun with it.

Fun exit cars make for a unique exit as well… antique cars, old police car (if you are a police man) or fire truck (fireman), helicopter ;), your neighbor’s old corvette, a boat, etc. Think of something either of you like to do or have as a career and try to incorporate that into your exit. Be unique, and have fun with it!

* * Make sure to let your photographer know about these special events or things you are planning, so you can get plenty of photos taken with them before the night concludes!

Wedding Wish #7

Wedding Wish #7-  Do an Engagement Session

This one is definitely hits home for me. When my husband and I got engaged, I spoke to our photographer and opted out of doing and the engagement session. My thinking was, I already have a ton of photos of us together why would I want to pay for someone to take more of us…. WELL what I didn’t realize, was, YES, I had a ton of photos of us together but they were mostly all taken by US… you know, faces squished together, arm out trying to get as much as we can in the photo… oh no wait, to the left, oh… to the right… wait… you cut my head off… OR they were photos taken by a friend, and we just happen to look really cute together. Well, those photos are nice, I get it, they captured a moment, a fun location, birthday party, vacation, etc. BUT 3 years later, as I am realizing, you’ll have nothing… You’ll look back and wish you took the 2 hours out of your day, went to some fun locations, put together some nice outfits, and gathered some props (or pets) , and did an engagement session… with a professional photographer. We edit the photos, guide in “posing” or “un-posing”, and most importantly just want you to have a great time and show your love for each other. Not to mention you’ll get a ton of photos that will last a lifetime!

Again, my strongest belief and desire for every bride and groom, even if this is not your first marriage, is that you go into this marriage as though this is it, it will last a lifetime and you are only having this brief opportunity and time as a fiancé planning your wedding, ONCE… So take advantage of everything, every offer, every discount, every opportunity given to you as an engaged couple! Enjoy it, it goes by too fast!… then you’ll want to do it all again!!

It’s also the probably the only time, unless he attend the consultation, your photographer will get to meet the groom. Which.. could prevent an awkward wedding day… “now whose getting married here???” ;)

Wedding Wish #8- Keep reception and ceremony locations the same, if possible

Wedding Wish #8- Keep your Ceremony and Reception venue the same, or at least within the same city

By keeping your ceremony and reception location the same, there are several benefits. One, you don’t loose your guests (unless you want to, and in that case definitely move your reception out!). And two, you aren’t rushed to get to your guests because they have been waiting. That is one of the things that’s most disappointing as a wedding photographer, is not allowing enough time to photograph creatively the bride and groom together on their wedding day.

Sometimes, I know it’s not possible to have your reception at the same location as your ceremony but if you have to move at least move within the same city, no more that 10-15 minute drive, and provide a detailed map. Here is a fun Wedding Day mapping website I found called WeddingMapper.
